Thank you for visiting Baloani, which I hope will prove to be a great point of reference for your personal philosophical
and spiritual journey.
My name is Paul Becque. When I first dated my wife, she called me Beqster, and the name has stuck! Now my friends and work colleagues use it too.
Since I was a child I wanted to know what life is all about. Consequently, I’ve studied many different beliefs and kept an open mind.
Buddhism and Taoism have been very inspirational for me. And, more recently, “The Secret” and our growing knowledge of quantum physics has taken me to an even deeper level of commitment to my discoveries. “Baloani” is simply a video diary of my journey and a reference point for anyone that resonates with my exploration.

Video Blog week 25
The tool suggested by Jack Canfield in “The Success Principles” this week, is the use of a Scoreboard. At first it sounds a little odd, but the more I read about the idea, the better it gets... and I’m not just talking about using it at work... But everything; time with the family, relationships, health, wealth, community and personal goals.
This is a tool that many of us will already use at work, as a way of grading what we do, setting ourselves goals to ensure that we are meeting targets and performing to the needs and expectations of our employer. And the chances are we are using a similar system if we enjoy sports... golf, football, tennis and even fishing (weighing the fish to see if it’s the largest one we’ve caught)... and keeping score, clearly let’s us know how we’re doing.
So why not use it in other areas of our lives? For example, actually keeping score of how many nights per week we take time to really talk with our partners... how many nights we get home from work on time... have dinner as a family... take the kids out... help them with their homework... etc, etc, etc... the list is literally endless.
And the great thing is... just as we try to run faster, or complete a round of golf with less strikes of the ball... we are likely to want to beat our average, or improve our score and consequently, life gets better.
I’m gonna use it it keep score of the healthy meals I eat, the number of times I do the Hour of Power, the glasses of wine I drink (which I plan to reduce), and with work... I’m going to generate my own scoreboard for keeping track of my performance, and that way I can ensure that my efforts are creating incremental improvements. And if they don’t, I’ll use different tools, or change course.

This week
we examine add another tool to measure our progress... the scoreboard. It can, and should be used in all areas of life, not only work. It’s possible to keep score on anything and everything, from spending time with the kids, to getting enough exercise and the number of drinks we have each week. Keep score!

Jack Canfield makes reference to books by Charles A. Coonradt, so I looked them up on Amazon... and holy moly! They’re brilliant... I’m buying them!
In “Scorekeeping for Success” he makes incredible observations regarding how companies manage their staff and often use measurement systems, scoreboards, that are ineffective and often archaic... affected by how their hair is worn, what time they leave work and what clothes they wear.
In essence, there are three ways in which staff are managed, and only the third can lead to success.
Observation; what the team “appear” to be doing. It is usually inaccurate, generally irrelevant and mostly
negative.
Judgement; which is usually based
on unreliable information and are
all too frequently, generalisations.
Measurement; which is relevant
to the process and tells you what
happened, it can be exact, and
the member of staff can see clearly
if they are winning... which is the
ultimate goal.
We can take the same ideas and
measure our own success in all
areas of life. I think it’s pretty
natural for all of us to want to
improve our scores at our favourite sports, or video games... which is why we tend to play time and time and time again. So why not take this same idea and use it in new environments?
If you haven’t seen “The Secret” yet, or haven’t watched it for some time, it’s well worth having a copy at home which you can watch whenever you need it. I lend my copy out soooo much, that I’ve had to buy a second copy to ensure I’ve always got one at home. It could be the impetus that you need to get your life going... to get you back on track if you’re having a bad day... to help a friend that visits for advice... to change jobs, fix a relationship, start saving money, begin enjoying every day!
I really believe that there is no right, or wrong way to “find” this information in a format that suits you and your current paradigms. It can work for you if you’re religious, spiritual or agnostic... you can read books that use religious study as a point of reference, or go down a scientific route which uses quantum physics as it’s foundation... but get started... it’s life changing!

Use the Amazon search engine to find any learning materials that you may be interested in.

With regard to my own personal endeavours, I can honestly
tell you that I have begun to feel a stronger sense of
success... a deep-
anything I wish, and I attribute that to the repetition of
visualisations, the constant use of positive cd’s in the car,
writing the blog, reading books and watching video clips.
The more I study, the more I understand what I’m trying to
achieve, the more focused I become and more connected I
feel toward the outcome... it’s awesome! I guess it’s a
greater trust in the Universe... a Higher Power... God.
A couple of weeks ago, I talked about facing my first hurdle and the fact that it had stressed me out, lead me to drink more than usual, eat badly and drop the Hour of Power all together. I began to focus on everything that I didn’t have, how far I have to go to have my dream life and began blaming others.
In retrospect, I can now see clearly, that this was an opportunity for me to step back into my old paradigms, my old habits, my old ways of thinking and that’s exactly what I did. However, because I am currently submerged in the science of positive thinking I was able to see that and quickly got back on track.
Today, the word “THINK” has more relevance than ever... and I can’t help but feel that “thinking” is what will change my paradigms, and by shifting paradigms, I can begin to live my life in a completely different way... and that’s exciting! REALLY EXCITING!
It all boils down to that very first point, or lesson, suggested by Jack Canfield in “The Success Principles”... take 100% responsibility. Because it really works.
E + R = O (event + response = outcome)
By changing our responses to events, we can change the outcome!
When I first read this statement, I could understand what it meant, but it didn’t hold any significance for me... it didn’t rock my world, it wasn’t the light bulb going on moment that we are all looking for. But by constantly working at this new way of life, new paradigm, it’s sinking in. It’s making sense and I can honestly tell you that it’s making a difference.
Taking responsibility for eating badly, dropping the Hour of Power, being angry forced me to realise that it’s my choice... yes, it’s a choice. I’m allowing “triggers” to go off in my head that “make” me eat badly... it’s just comfort eating... something I learned or taught myself, and when I’m down, I do it. If I consider a situation to be out of my control, I blame others and get angry... it’s a choice.
I can turn it around. I can “re-
So my first hurdle has now become a great point of reference for me, because it’s made it clear that...
everything is undoubtedly
down to my way of thinking.
In a far more dramatic way, Rhonda Byrne, author and producer of “The Secret” was lead to her own enlightenment, turning point, her epiphany if you like, by a series of negative events in her life... and one small and simple book, written in 1910, changed that all for her.
