Thank you for visiting Baloani, which I hope will prove to be a great point of reference for your personal philosophical

and spiritual journey.

My name is Paul Becque. When I first dated my wife, she called me Beqster, and the name has stuck! Now my friends and work colleagues use it too.

Since I was a child I wanted to know what life is all about. Consequently, I’ve studied many different beliefs and kept an open mind.

Buddhism and Taoism have been very inspirational for me. And, more recently, “The Secret” and our growing knowledge of quantum physics has taken me to an even deeper level of commitment to my discoveries. “Baloani” is simply a video diary of my journey and a reference point for anyone that resonates with my exploration.

The Power of Goal Setting

Baloani Assay 7   -   15 March, 2010

Before I start talking about this weeks task of setting goals, let me share with you something that I’ve learned in the last six weeks. Discipline. It’s become really clear to me that the only way to get what it is that you’re after, is discipline. Since starting the Baloani project, I am continually listening to myself THINK, and I really mean think, rather than simply allowing random thoughts to run through my mind.

For example, last week, my buddy Tyler, who happens to be a fitness instructor, shared loads of information with me. I had to really listen and absorb the information he provided so that our next shopping trip to the supermarket didn’t simply continue as usual... we had to make change... and we succeeded. But we had to be disciplined. No more biscuits or crisps and much less carbohydrates and processed foods. And making a plan for our meals helped us to shop with a clear vision of what we wanted to eat... so we piled up on a variety of fruits and yogurt (breakfast every morning), eggs (for lunches) and loads of veg and salad (to go with meat and fish for dinner). We also bought healthy granola bars, seeds and nuts (for the snacks, that we’re unaccustomed too).

It was actually fun shopping for new things, and we even read the labels to see what was in the foods... we’ve never done that before, with the exception of crisps... which we all know are naughty!

I once read an article that suggested you think thin when you’re on a diet. And it’s only now, that I truly understand that comment. I heard those words ringing in my mind on number of occasions, and presumed it meant, think yourself thin... tell yourself you’re thin... I’m thin, I’m thin, I’m thin! WRONG!!!

My understanding now, is that you need to think about your goal. Thin. What do I need to do to achieve my perfect weight? Think about it when you are faced with food, shopping, stairs, walking... any activity. So when you go out for dinner, instead of tucking into the deep fried yummy dish that you’re craving, go for the salad that gets your taste buds going... and think about how you’ll look in six months... if you give in, and go for the deep fried option... think about how you’ll look in six months! And exactly the same goes for climbing stairs or taking the lift, walking to town or jumping in the car... Think. Be disciplined.

And I also believe, that if you have beneficial thoughts running through your mind whilst you’re eating your salad for dinner, your fruit for breakfast, you’ll start to change the images in your head and the taste on your buds, when you eat... when you exercise. It’s all a thought process. Change the thoughts, to suit your needs. It just takes discipline... and I read somewhere (it may have been Jack Canfield), that if you can change a pattern for 30 days, it will become habitual... then it’s a lifestyle.

This has been a really successful week for food and diet change... but I need to increase my exercise. I’ve had a couple of days in the garden, which already had me aching all over, but the stepper is out and ready for use. I’m gonna buy some scales too, so that I can actually record my weight loss and have a measurable success that I can be held accountable for.

Progress! A change of

diet, a change of habits and the idea of thinking is becoming a reality. Think thin is not an idea, but a command, a discipline. Measurable goals are put into place and the journey to a dream life is set in motion complete with a timetable... that’s exciting!

Assay 7

After much consideration, I decided to split this week into two tasks. If there is one thing I have learned from living the Baloani project, it’s certainly the fact that you’ve got to take action to get results. I read “The Success Principles” four or five years ago and absorbed the information... but none of the exercises had been completed. So, I don’t want to miss out on any important opportunities or skills, simply for the sake of ploughing through it.

Consequently, this week I will set out my goals which will meet two criteria.

HOW MUCH (a measurable quantity, such as weight) and BY WHEN (a specific time and date). The perfect example of this is my diet... losing weight. I am currently 12 stone and 1 pound. I will be 10 stone and 7 pounds by 5pm on April 12, 2010... that’s exactly 4 weeks!!!

Can I do it?

Well, I don’t think it’s going to be easy, because I’ve been talking about losing this weight for about five years. And it hasn’t budged. My friends call it middle-age spread and say it’s just part of life. I don’t believe it. It’s habitual eating and avoidance of exercise... so yes, I can do it. With some discipline, yes. With the right diet, some exercise, walking, bike riding... more gardening now the sun is out... Yes. A definite yes!!!

But that’s just an example that you can hold me accountable to in a very short period of time.

What about my lifetime goals? Jack Canfield suggests putting each of the goals onto a 3 x 5” card with the criteria included, and then generating a scrap book with images and details of each goal on it’s own page... this was fun, it was exciting. It’s so exhilarating to think about your dream life, and then begin to see it in colour. It’s what John Assaraf calls a “vision board” in “The Secret”, and I gotta tell ya, we did just that for the house we live in today... we even took photographs of the home we wanted to buy, painted the door a different colour and pasted pics of Wisteria on it. Today, we live in that house, have painted the front door green and have 30ft of Wisteria growing up the house. I believe vision boards work!

So this week I spent my time producing the cards and goal book, and began to generate a list of 101 things I’d like to do before I die... hey’ it’s a lot harder than you think. The first 25 even 50 might be easy, but the last 51... yikes... hopefully, you’ll try it too.

Additionally, and Jack hasn’t gone into this yet, but I’m confident he will... once you’ve got your “by when” dates in mind, you then need to work backwards with incremental dates showing how you will achieve the goal... for example, if I want to be in a movie by 2012, what are the steps I can take for each of the 24 months leading up to the designated date? When you start to do this, it helps make the goal a reality, but it also makes this project a lengthy one.

So, next week I will commit to reading the goals three times a day... Jack says this can generate all sorts of emotional states and negativity, which is why I don’t want to rush it.

In the meantime, here are the goals I set in week 3, with the addition of the “how much” and “by when” criteria:

30 Things I Want to Do

1. star in a movie.

It will be a British romantic comedy directed by Richard Curtis, by April 2012.

2. star in a cartoon (voice over).

It will be an Aardman Animation production, by September, 2011.

3. work in a West End show.

It will be the role of Fagin, in “Oliver” by June, 2011.

4. learn to fly a helicopter.

I will start to take lessons in a 4-seater, near London, by August, 2011.

5. go on retreats with distinguished talkers.

I will meet with Bob Proctor & Jack Canfield by March, 2011.

30 Things I Want to Have

1. house in Amersham, Bucks

I have a pic of the perfect home, called “Apsley House”, by March 14, 2013.

2. porsche cayenne

It will be silver with red leather seats, by April 2011.

3. holidays every year

Why wait? First holiday, April 2010.  Another to Lapland in December, 2010.

4. more time with my family

Most of my family live abroad, so it means trips away, or getting them to visit.

5. beautiful large garden

That will have to be in the Amersham home, by March 14, 2013.

30 Things I Want to Do Before I Die

1. go on a safari

Shouldn’t be that difficult to do. So, August 2011.

2. go on a world cruise

That’s a little more expensive and requires time! August 2020.

3. meet Jack Canfield

I will go on a retreat or course with Jack by April, 2011.

4. prove that The Secret & Law of Attraction is a real force

It will be clear this is all working by April 2011, but the work is life long.

5. make a difference to people’s lives

I have work on tv, and get to make people laugh on a daily basis. Today!

Now, don’t forget, this site is all about participation and sharing, so please feel free to jump on facebook or send a message to email@baloani.com with a bucket list of your own. Hey... that’s given me a great idea... I’m gonna add a page of inspirational movies!!!! Look out for it next week, and feel free to email or facebook some great titles!!!

Next week... I will finish this section by activating the creative powers of the subconscious mind by reading the goals three times a day. Cool!
