Thank you for visiting Baloani, which I hope will prove to be a great point of reference for your personal philosophical

and spiritual journey.

My name is Paul Becque. When I first dated my wife, she called me Beqster, and the name has stuck! Now my friends and work colleagues use it too.

Since I was a child I wanted to know what life is all about. Consequently, I’ve studied many different beliefs and kept an open mind.

Buddhism and Taoism have been very inspirational for me. And, more recently, “The Secret” and our growing knowledge of quantum physics has taken me to an even deeper level of commitment to my discoveries. “Baloani” is simply a video diary of my journey and a reference point for anyone that resonates with my exploration.

Your Inner Critic

Baloani Assay 44   -   2 March, 2011

This month, this first principle, regarding the “inner critic” has proved to be very important, very useful and helped me to remain calm and balanced even when under pressure. It is the best tool that I have come across in a few weeks.

Jack Canfield opens this chapter by presenting some scientific facts, suggesting that the average person speaks to themselves 50,000 times a day and goes on to say that 80% of that is usually negative!

Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821 - 1881)
Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys.
If he counted them up as he ought to,
he would see that every lot has enough happiness provided for it.

Assays 44-47

This video

clip was recorded at the end of the month and discusses all four assays, but it’s placed at the top of the page for easy access. Not a lot of growth this month, but I’m busy creating an album of music which we consider to be “musical tonic for the mind”... affirmations set to foot-tapping beats... intonal... we are excited.

Well this month, I fell into a negative lull. I have been under a lot of pressure juggling with the blog, our music project “intonal©”, buying things for the baby (due in July) and ever increasing bills. At the start of March I could see nothing but bills and expenses as we worked out what we would have to spend on recording studios, decorating materials and baby needs (pram, cot, and much, much more!).

Well that was all it took for those 50,000 messages to get dark and angry, creating panic and fear, thinking about the “double-recession” about to take grip of the UK... wondering how on earth I was gonna succeed at my goal of doubling my income... and more. A horrible place to be... and it was all in my head!

There couldn’t have been a better time to have read this idea. It’s simple... rather than allowing the negative thoughts to run away with themselves and leave lots of questions and suggestions unanswered, you take the opportunity to have a conversation and make that “inner critic” an “inner coach”. You take the opportunity to TALK with each other and then decide what information it is you want to keep, use or delete! Sound a little crazy?

I’ll give you an example which most of us can relate to. Let’s say you’ve got a secret, something you don’t want to share... it could be as simple as buying another piece of expensive jewellery and you wanna keep it quiet, to as complex as meeting a “friend” that you’re quietly attracted to... and now, no matter what happens, because you’re focused on that “secret” everything revolves around it... your partner is deep in thought and you wanna know why? A friends asks if you liked something and you want to know why they asked! You’re super sensitive about everything because your mind is running wild, filled with guilt, predicting capture... and then the nervous thoughts become a physical reality, you feel the nerves, the pain, the fear in your body. Been there? I think we’ve all done it at one time or another.

Simply by recognising this fact, you can begin to stamp the negative thoughts out, or begin to use the train of thought for a personal “inner” discussion. You can read about it in full detail in chapter 32 of “The Success Principles”.

My negative chain of events had all begun because of a video I had watched on YouTube that discussed the end of the world in 2011. How crazy is that? I lost a nights sleep with worry, thinking about money, workload, losing my job, losing my house, building a bunker under the house...  holy mackerel... was I going crazy? I let a stupid video run wild within my mind, my imagination. But by using this tool, I was able to talk myself through the upcoming expenditure, make a plan on how to pay for everything without panic and then juggled my work load into an order that I deemed most important. All of the jobs need doing, but I couldn’t possibly do them all in one day... so I broke it down into smaller parts and began. Now it’s all under control... phew! But it’s easy to see just how manic our minds can be.

Jack suggests a four step process in which we can transform our negative thoughts into helpful one... Anger, Fear, Requests, Love. Taking the anger in our minds and bringing them into alignment with out inner peace... self love!

You can apply it to any area of your life, exercise, over eating, smoking, working too hard, not spending enough time with the family, etc. If you’ve had kids you can easily relate to the example that Jack uses.

And it’s easy to use this tool for any situation... give it a go... turn everything into love... self love. Often you’ll find that you want to make the change that you’re hearing in your head, but it sounds like nagging and consequently you ignore it... I’ve been paying attention to my fitness and watching what I eat, but I can still improve a great deal. If I eat a packet of crisps because I’m hungry I can hear the “angry” voice of reason in my head... even though I understand why... I ignore it.

But think for a moment... turn the anger around. I’m angry at your for eating fast food that heavy in fats. I’m afraid that you won’t get to the weight you’d like to be and more importantly you won’t attain the vibrant energy you enjoy. I want you to eat delicious food that’s high in water-content and drink more water. It’s because I love you and want you to enjoy being active, able to have more fun, feel good and inspire others. You deserve it.

So stop nagging yourself and get loving!!!

Limiting Beliefs

Baloani Assay 45   -   9 March, 2011

This is a very short and interesting chapter. I think that anyone who has read a self-help or personal development book will already have a handle on it. In essence, if you

believe you can do something, you’re more likely to have a go, be able to handle the challenges that lie ahead and accomplish your goals. If you don’t believe you can do it, you may not even try! Consequently, this is a very powerful tool. If you have any doubt, any limiting beliefs then you’re likely to come across a barrier.

I believe that I can double my income. I believe that I do deserve to have more money. I believe that I should be happy and successful.

Baloani Assay 46   -   16 March, 2011

This chapter is built around the idea that 90% of what we do is habitual. Oh, boy, how true is that? Do you get up every morning and do the same thing? Have you tried to switch coffee for a glass of water? Or your usual sandwich for a box of celery and humus? You may do it for a day or two, or even a week... but you found yourself right back at the beginning... I know, I know, it’s true. I know, coz it happens to me. There are so habits that I have tried to break, but persisting with this blog has enabled me to break many of them... not all, but many.

Joseph Murphy (1898 - 1981)
What you affirm consciously and feel as true
will be made manifest in your mind, body, and affairs.
Affirm the good and enter into the joy of living.
Margot Fonteyn (1919 - 1991)
The one important thing I have learned over the years
is the difference between taking one's work seriously
and taking one's self seriously.
The first is imperative and the second is disastrous.

I believe that deciding to change is the greatest help. Vision boards, affirmations, goals all help you to create an image in your head that is so strong and clear that the change is more enjoyable than staying the same. Not easier! But less painful than getting fat, being ill, losing your dream, your girl, your car.

Jack is suggesting that we take it easy and instead of overwhelming ourselves with change and just slipping back into our old ways, we

Annual Success Habits

I guess I skipped through this chapter because it’s not an area of concern I have. I believe I can do anything I want to. I suppose the next question is... if I believe that I can do anything I want to, why haven’t I? Well, that’s exactly the bit I’m working on. And in all honesty, I have achieved a great deal, I have enjoyed a very colourful life, I have been able to travel the globe, become head of entertainment for the largest ship in the world, change career and work in tv... but I’m not a movie star, I’m not rich, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not... calm down, relax!

I don’t believe that my thoughts are limiting. They are not holding me back. I believe that didn’t adopt enough good habits or skills, train hard enough, network enough and so on... but I could have achieved more had I approached those dreams differently. The next chapter deals with that.

However, had I found any limiting beliefs, I would write them down and consider how they are holding me back. I would think about the way in which I would like to feel, act or be and then create an affirmation that would encourage me to do, be or feel just that.

This principle is based around the idea that the subconscious mind accepts what your conscious mind decrees. Consequently, if you have limiting believes they will come to pass. Simply select better thoughts.

take four 4 habits and change those each year. It’s a great idea, and as he suggests, changing 4 lifetime habits each year would be 20 life changing ways in 5 years! Personally, I don’t want to wait... 4 a year?... no way... I’m taking everything I can. I’m changing day by day, week by week, month by month, but I’m not waiting a year. Of course, that year will pass (as it has!!!) but I may have picked up 15 new habits in the last year alone.

Having said that, I’m not a complete success story. Of course not. I still sneak the odd packet of crisps when I’m hungry. I still miss breakfast now and again. I still have days when I go into coffee overload... but I’m very conscious of what I’m doing and I pay attention to it all. I KNOW that I’m going to have another coffee, and I consider the alternatives, and sometimes I will go for the water instead. Awareness is my big change. I think about everything I do. That is certainly one of my 4 habits for 2010 and I foresee many more for 2011.

If you like the idea of change, why not list everything that you think you could change, list everything that holds you back, or is not good for you and then find better ways, good habits... that’s personal development, self-help... and it costs nothing! Decide to be better!

Committed Decision

Baloani Assay 47   -   23 March, 2011

Oh, another great principle! A very short chapter, but a power house of a tool. It relates very closely to Bob Proctor’s thoughts on decision. Once you’ve made your mind up 100% to do something... you can. If you have the tiniest doubt, even 1%, you can fail so easily.

Bob Proctor directed me toward some fabulous text written by Dr. Carole N. Hildebrand which sums up this powerful tool, perfectly.

“There is a corollary element that must go hand in hand with the decision... and that is commitment. It must be a committed decision. Most of us have weak decision-making muscles... we do not even recognize what it means to make a real decision. We fail to realise the force of change, a truly congruent, committed decision makes. Part of our problem is that we use the term decision so loosely that it has come to describe our wishes, not our commitments. Instead of making decisions, we state our preferences.

The word decision comes from the Latin roots, de, meaning from and caedere, meaning to cut ... therefore a decision means cutting from any other possibility. A true decision, then, means you are committed to achieving a result, and then cutting yourself off from any other possibility.

Committed decisions show up in two places; your calendar and your check book. No matter what you say you value, or even think your priorities are, you have only to look at last year’s calendar and check book to see the decisions you have made about what you truly value. For example, I am committed to growth, both professionally and personally. A review of my calendar always shows multiple continuing education courses, seminars, and workshops in both the personal growth area, as well as in my profession. My check book is filled with tuition disbursements, purchases of books and videos. Bottom line... see how you have reserved your time... look at your expenditures... those are the road maps to the decisions you have made in the past.

After making a true decision, especially the tough ones, we usually feel a tremendous burden has been lifted from our shoulders.”

Dr. David Schwartz (19?? - 19??)
Believe it can be done.
When you believe something can be done, really believe,
your mind will find the ways to do it.
Believing a solution paves the way to solution.

“clear”. Like it or not, L. Ron Hubbard set out standards for improving one’s mental health. It was personal development in the 1950’s. I can’t find any evidence to prove that he did read some of the classic self-help books, but when you realise how many had already been written and were readily available, it suddenly becomes easy to draw this conclusion. Just sayin’.

Thomas Edison (1847 - 1931)
Many of life's failures are people who did not realize
how close they were to success when they gave up.

Whilst working on the “Classic Material” I came across an article about L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology, and because of my studying this past year I suddenly wondered if this writer had read the works of our “New Thought Movement” heroes and used their ideas to create his theories on Dianetics? I know that many will shudder at the thought, but despite being a religion, they teach their members many of the same principles in an effort to become

Again, this is a tool that many of us will probably have experienced at one time or another. You made your mind up to do something and you put the extras hours or effort in, and it paid off. Or you failed the first time, but you knew you could do it, and you picked yourself up and tried again... this time succeeding. It is examples like this that I have personally experienced that make it clear to me that “positive thinking” is soooooo important. It generates staying power. It urges you to continue. It can be enough to take you to where you want to be, because you’ve decided that nothing else will do. Nothing else is acceptable. You’re 100% committed and no matter what, you’re having it, getting it, going there, meeting him (or her).

I took this principle onboard and it’s helped get me through this last week. I had lots of new information come my way, which was enlightening, but suddenly created lots more work that I didn’t need. I could feel myself sinking in self-pity, defeat, drowning in overwhelming circumstances. But I decided to get a grip, take control of my mind, get through the one by one and complete everything in good time. So here I am running a day behind on the blog... but does it matter? Is anyone going to die? No. And this is exactly what we’re studying. It’s all in the mind! The peace, the quiet, the tranquility, the panic, the turmoil the problems. We decide. We choose. We are responsible.

So, in conclusion. Another extremely busy month. Learning loads, working hard, moving toward my goals, but not as quickly as I would like. What can I do to improve conditions? Stay calm. Meditate. Get in touch with my spirit, the source. KNOW that what I want is coming, heading toward me at lightening speed. Smile more. Laugh more. Get out into my garden and enjoy the spring sunshine. Be an example of spiritual bliss. Be thankful for everything I’ve got, especially when so many others are struggling - with nature, with war, with illness, with nuclear disasters. I’ll add a gratitude page for fun!

My last note. A request. During this month I added a “Blog Annex”. A place where you can recommend other blogs, websites and video clips which will provide myself and others with useful personal development knowledge... please take a look right now and feel free to add something... it’ll take 10 seconds to add the three pieces of information required. Thank you.

I was thinking that I need to get back on the bandwagon with writing out my goals, listening to more of my positive thinking material and quit with all my excuses. Most likely that was too much to type that night. Thanks for calling me out on that! I needed this ,this morning! You have a fabulous day and thank you for caring.

Jen Winship Jukes     31 March 2011, 22:16:57

Hi Beqster, Really recognise the truth in that statement about not limiting your choices. When I left Zimbabwe 6 years ago with a 16 year old daughter, 3 suitcases and £800 - impossible and unreasonable seemed more likely ... but I am really thankful for the way things opened up and here I am launching into another equally scary project of starting my own business, using outstanding material to mentor people with remarkable results (the finances are the scary part) but I'm on the road to success and very excited about it. Thanks for your encouraging and inspiration material. Best regards, Jen

Caroline Oram     31 March 2011, 23:56:45

So true and we all do it! We just need to be open to this big wide world and know that anything is possible its just our minds that limits us. Take away the limits and dream big! Xxx

I learned that many years ago after reading Don Migel Ruiz's "The Four Agreements" - D’ont take things personally. Hard to do, but well worth the effort. The "Leg Lady".

Hiya Paul, I just wanted to thank you. Just over 2 years ago I lost my daughter at 4 1/2 months, I was in a really bad place then. I flicked through the channels one evening and there you were, joking, laughing, and messing around, you were my dirty little secret!!! Slowly but surely I learned to laugh again, AT YOU, mostly!!!! Now I have a beautiful 11 month old daughter, and me and my partner are both great, my life is good again. You were my angel. so from the bottom of my heart thank you very, much for just being you!! xx
