Thank you for visiting Baloani, which I hope will prove to be a great point of reference for your personal philosophical

and spiritual journey.

My name is Paul Becque. When I first dated my wife, she called me Beqster, and the name has stuck! Now my friends and work colleagues use it too.

Since I was a child I wanted to know what life is all about. Consequently, I’ve studied many different beliefs and kept an open mind.

Buddhism and Taoism have been very inspirational for me. And, more recently, “The Secret” and our growing knowledge of quantum physics has taken me to an even deeper level of commitment to my discoveries. “Baloani” is simply a video diary of my journey and a reference point for anyone that resonates with my exploration.

The Nerve to Ask

Blog week 20   -   23 June, 2010

Holy mackerel... what a great week! What could have been a disastrous week, turned out to be amazing, and yesterday left me feeling on top of the world...

a beautiful wife that loves me, two adorable kids, a job I love, a house we love (which needs more renovations, but we’re well on our way) and of course my dream car! Driving to work yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the feeling of success that was running through my body... I feel like I have it all... but of course I don’t, I’m just on my way... but I truly experienced the Attitude of Gratitude and actually had butterflies in my chest... a buzz... a natural high...

a big ass smile on my face... life is good!

This week is all about asking questions. I don’t know about you, but I am a chicken when it comes to asking people for what I want. I don’t like to make people feel uncomfortable and I really have to be a looooong way out of my comfort zone to get agitated enough “to ask for what I want”... And that’s exactly what this chapter is about in Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles”.

This chapter couldn’t have come at a better time. Why? My new car broke down! My bathroom was being renovated and I had issues at work. Asking questions, saved the day!

I couldn’t believe it... I’ve only had the Cadillac a couple of weeks and the battery went flat... zonked out, dead. The RAC were great and got me started on two occasions... but I needed the dealer to do some work here and help me out...

I have a three-year parts and labour warranty, but I was suffering from immense inconvenience. Instead of just being on the phone ranting and raving (which is probably what I would have done in the past, to compensate for my fear), I decided to visit the dealer, take ownership of the situation and explain to them face-to-face, exactly what I wanted and expected... and I got it! A Baloani® moment!

It worked. The car was collected, a brand new battery installed and I was offered a courtesy car if required (which it wasn’t). The old battery turned out to be a complete wreck... so the problem was sorted and my dream car is back on the road... and boy-oh-boy, does it feel good to drive. That car makes me feel different about myself, I’m vibrating at a different rate, I look forward to driving to work, driving home... anywhere... in fact we went out for dinner three times last week, just so that we could get in the car and drive!!! (Writing that is making me laugh inside).

Week 11 - take two

Last week I explained that I am accelerating the completion of renovations to our house, (which is a leap of faith, because I really don’t have the money right now)... so we currently have the plumber and builder working on our en-suite. Rather than let them tell me what they could do... I asked them how I could achieve the best results within my budget. I’m not usually that outright or open about my finances, but I wanted to ASK. And when we had excess materials left over, I took them back to the DIY and asked for a refund. When I was declined because I didn’t have the receipts, I asked for a credit note, and got one! Another Baloani® moment!

In my blog last week, I also said

that I was going to start utilising

this “technology” in my work

environment... and I’ve stuck to

my word.

I called a meeting with my newly

appointed Boss, and we discussed

my future; where I am, where I

want to be and what I’m all about.

It was great to share this info with

someone that can actually make a

difference and it’s made me feel

more connected to my work.

I am also working within a new

team which is proving to be a little

uncomfortable at the moment, and

I know from my previous behaviour that I usually “just get through it” and don’t say anything... at least not directly to the individuals involved... and because I need to “vent” my frustrations, I tend to moan and whine to someone else... not good, and certainly the wrong way to achieve a pleasant working environment.

I now KNOW for a fact, that (see week 1)

   E + R = O    (event + response = outcome)

and by changing our responses to events, we can change the outcome!

So I changed my response... and I dealt with the issues on a face-to-face basis, and I came to this new approach by asking myself questions.

This week has certainly been

a success. Call it lucky timing if you wish, but I was able to take the task of “asking” and turn my week around. Forget victim of circumstance, I focused on what I wanted the outcome to be and mustered the nerve to ask for what I wanted... and got it three times! This

                                         can work!

 Jack Canfield on Asking
Advert for the Cadillac CTS
The Universe (Mike Dooley)
The one thing "bad days" have over "good days,"
is that they're completely optional.
Every day is a "whooohoooo" day.

In this clip, Anthony Robbins makes it clear just how useful asking questions toward others aswell as yourself, can be.

At the end of the chapter in “The Success PrinciplesJack Canfield suggests that you make a list of the things you want, but don’t usually ask for. Cover all areas, such as finance, career, recreation, health, relationships, etc.

Then ponder on what stops you from asking? What’s your fear? Rejection? Hate to seem needy? Don’t want to appear stupid?

Just afraid to hear the word “no”?  These are all true for me.

Then write down what it’s costing you, not to ask. Then write down the benefits of asking... for example; a pay rise, a loan, important feedback, a referral, an endorsement, a well needed pat on the back, a hug, a kiss, a date, a free meal.

It’s awful not having the power to ask, but it’s only a question... and I’ve found that it’s like muscle... if you can get into the habit of asking, it gets easier and easier and easier... I promise! The first time is the hardest, the second is a little bit easier, and when you start to see the results, you can’t help yourself... you’ll be asking because you KNOW, the worst that can happen is you get a “no” and who cares, when you might get a “yes”. It’s worked for me time and time again this week... there’s no stopping me now!

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
Do not be too timid and squeamish
about your actions.
All life is an experiment.

This week has been brilliant, and it’s only 20 weeks into the program. Less than five months and I honestly feel that I’m already improving my life dramatically, and sometimes I can really, truly, confidently see myself getting everything I want. It’s amazing... I’m empowered... I’ve turned a light on... I’m magnetising!!!

If this is all new to you, or you know someone that’s struggling in their life, feeling overwhelmed... get them to watch The Secret or even buy them a copy of the dvd... I have bought several now and directed hundreds of people towards “The Secret”. In just a few weeks, what started out as an experiment to see if the “Law of Attraction” was a real force or simply baloney... I have already proved to myself that it works, it’s working... and I’m looking forward to my next Baloani® moment!

Next week is all about rejecting rejection!

Give yourself more credit than that. Luck had nothing to do with it. You accessed the situation, analysed it, learned what you needed to do and did it even it you didn't feel like doing it. You are victorious!

Pat McLean     24 June 2010 12:46:23

Thanks for sharing! Knowing what you want makes it easier to discover that you have it, can find it, can ask for it and accept it.

Maureen Finlay Hayes     25 June 2010 13:43:29

I did the same thing. I asked for what I wanted. I was given a positive response and now the work has to be done to make it come to fruition! You will never know if you don't ask!

Margo Della Torre     25 June 2010 13:51:53

I ASK ALL THE TIME... this time I am going to keep quiet... lol... x

Alan Roberts     25 June 2010 14:47:53

Enjoyed week 20, blimey it flew!! A bit emotional that was Paul, I didn’t realise you was so sensitive with folk... That’s a nice trait to have mate.  One day I see you as a teacher, I kid you not, and tho I swore I don’t do seminars and follow teachers, I would be the first to buy a ticket if you should become a “teacher”. You do bring a smile and a sense of warmth to those you’re reaching, I said to my missus, I’ll shake that mans hand one day, you’re a legend in my house, you make me laugh, same sense of humour. TC buddy.

Tracey Giles     25 June 2010 15:51:53

I agree with Alan, you would make a great life coach. I'd sign up for a seminar too! People are starting to notice the positive changes in me which is nice. It doesn't always come easy but I'm persevering!
